This Weeks probable team

Steve’s Pre - match look ahead

Weather permitting Furness will have to pick themselves up and quick if they are to bounce back from the heavy home defeat at the hands of Blackburn last week as the blues head for Kirkby Lonsdale.

Blackburn were well drilled, did all the basics well and were well organised. Kirkby, lying in second place in the league, will be all that Blackburn were plus a bit more. Only a couple of changes for Furness as Arron Pike returns to the second row and Danny Crompton and skipper Phil Brockbank swap around in the back-row. The forwards seem to enjoy the return to form and fitness of their skipper and it is hoped that this will galvanise the blues for the remainder of the season.

Chris Brookshaw deservedly gets a starting chance at scrum-half and Jack Clements returns to bolster the centre. Last week coach Rod Singleton will have been pleased with the commitment up front with some good set-piece work from the forwards but he will have been perplexed by the lack of cohesion elsewhere especially when in possession.

The blues’ Achilles heel this season has been un-forced errors and Singleton will know that they must not offer gifts as freely to the opposition if they are to compete in this most difficult of leagues. Furness know that, on their day, they can compete with the best and this week they will have to be at their very best if they are to salvage any points. Not completely beyond them but the blues have the fighting spirit and never say die attitude to grind a point or two out of a tricky trip
